Neelakurinji – The Flower that Paint the Mountains Blue:

A phenomenon that occurs once in every twelve years; the blooming of Neelakurinji (Strobilanthes kunthiana) had always attracted crowds of eager onlookers to this part of the Nilgiri's. The variant seen in the hills of Munnar last bloomed on a mass scale in 2006. Given the twelve year cycle, the next major bloom would be in 2018. A period stretching from June till September, the hills will turn Blue.
